My name is David Tethal and I am an artist, working under the name Davidko.Davidko was born in the heart of the old continent - the Czech republic. This land is a country rich in history and culture that has influenced the rest of Europe. Fine wood craftsmanship has been a tradition in Davidko's family for nearly 3 generations. As a boy, Davidko had an intense interest in the woodworking process and spent a lot of time in his grandfather's shop. His grandfather was an inspiration and example for Davidko. Therefore, he wanted to follow in his master's footsteps.
Later on, Davidko began his professional path by spending 8 years learning the craft. He studied finish carpentry, furniture making and wood work with an emphasis in antiques and artwork. During his studies and early work years, he was in touch with many experts, in such places as, the Craft Manufacturing Museum and National Gallery in Praque. He also visited studios in France - the Versailles and Musee de Louvre, as well as workshop in Slovakia, Poland, and Austria. In 2004 Davidko moved to the USA where he still lives and works today.
Davidko focuses on detail oriented work with a first class quality. Using handmade tools inherited from his grandfather, Davidko specializes in techniques that date back hundreds of years. Furthermore, for finish application, he only uses organic oils, wax, and French polish that he prepares himself according to ancient recipes. Currently, Davidko has found his passion in the art of wood inlay.
